Help One Child Thrive (HOCT) was founded from lived experience and compassionate partnership. Our co-founder, Mugoya Swaliki, grew up as an orphan and understands intimately the challenges these children face: the uncertainty, the lack of support, the constant struggle for survival. Determined to offer children the opportunities he once longed for, he created HOCT together with Veronica Anghelescu Drölma, his humanitarian partner from Romania. Together, they built an organisation grounded in empathy, dignity and the belief that every child deserves a chance not only to survive, but to thrive.

What We Do

Education

• Raise school fees to ensure children can attend school.
• Build our own school to provide high-quality, accessible education.
• Offer professional life-skills, career guidance, and counselling.

Healthcare

• Provide free medical treatment to our children in the HOCT Clinic.
• Expand our medical services to address complex conditions such as hydrocephalus and sickle-cell disease.
• Plan and build a surgical wing to offer safer and more comprehensive care.

Community Empowerment

• Create stable jobs for local women; our doctors, nurses, and key staff are predominantly women.
• Promote wellbeing and autonomy by educating adolescent girls and young women on responsible reproductive health.
• Drill boreholes and construct wells to ensure clean, safe water for the community.

Cultural and Personal Development

• Facilitate pen-pal exchanges and global friendships through letter-writing.
• Teach foreign languages and enable children to practice through live online conversations.

Safety, Support & Transparency

• Conduct search-and-rescue missions when children (but also travellers, tourists, women) in the area are in danger.
• Protect our sponsors by actively exposing scammers and ensuring safe, ethical communication.
• Provide legal documents, tax exemption forms, contracts, and receipts for complete transparency.

Our Current Work Plan

We are committed to long-term, sustainable solutions for the children and community we serve. Our immediate priorities include:

• Completing the construction of the HOCT School, offering students a supportive and inspiring learning environment.
• Drilling additional boreholes and building community wells to guarantee reliable access to clean water.
• Expanding the HOCT Clinic with a surgical wing and new specialist teams, including surgery and orthopaedics.
• Developing advanced medical services capable of treating complicated childhood conditions.
• Strengthening education for adolescent girls and young women, helping prevent unwanted pregnancies and supporting mental and physical health.
