A Beautiful Day

It was a beautiful, good day of my life. The little girl with heart-surgery is well, we have organized funds to get her a bed and other necessities, and a wonderful person decided to be her sponsor. Thank you, Loraine, Maria and Josephine, for all your kindness towards this broken little child!

Apart from this, we worked well, with energy and joy, going through our normal issues and struggles, and slowly fixing everything that is within our power.

In our world, there is so much going on right now; and of all that, only small things are within our power to fix. This morning I had my Tibetan language class, and my beloved Teacher dictated me a profound sentence to write down – “Each morning, you wake up, while others don’t – not anymore. You are lucky. So get out of the bed and do your part in the world.”

And now, each of us does their part. Perhaps you fed a child. Perhaps you shared a meaningful post on Facebook. Perhaps you caressed a little animal. Perhaps you did not get angry at your friend.

It all matters…

SOME PEOPLE

…are like a balm to the soul. Kisige Shaukana Faluk is this little boy in the photo (growing beautifully) and his long-distance mother, Debbie Mifsud is like a wonderland fairy, always looking after him.

I lovee Debbie. She writes such thoughtful messages; she never rushes; her communication is warm and beautiful and she makes me feel that not only the child matters to her, but also myself. She never forgets to tell me a kind word, or to ask me how I am. And towards Faluk she pours all her love and generosity, that this little boy actually considers her – his true Mother.

Through my work, I got to meet the best, most inspiring side of humanity, and this is why I could never give up, no matter how hard it is.

There are many other people like Debbie and this year I want to tell you all about them, so that you see that there ARE good people out there.

ON SMILING

(yet again)

A lot of beautiful work was done today, and also more funds for the Windows have arrived! Truly thrilled and happy about all our common accomplishments!

Enjoy the photos of these sweethearts and be happy that such kindness exists in our world!

For the new friends to know, as well as for the old friends who keep asking: we do not ask the children to smile. Some of them do not even know how to smile, some of them do not wish to, most people from this culture prefer not to smile when their photo is taken, but…

MOST IMPORTANTLY:

The children should not need to feel that they must do something for their food. What shall I tell them: “Smile, or your sponsor will be upset?” I cannot do that. It is not ethical.

If they smile, they smile. If they do not smile, then they do not, and it should be perfectly alright. They really do not need to do anything for their food, they do not need to “deserve” it.

I smile. Each and every single day of my life, I work on HOCT tables, communication and finances, and regardless of what the people tell me (which varies from “thank you” to “what if this is a scam?”) I keep my smile and do not let my happiness wither.

I smile, but they do not have to.

Information about Medical Insurance

HOCT offers the possibility to purchase a medical insurance for a child in our community at a very symbolic price of 10 euros for the whole year 2025 (unlimited treatments and medication).

PayPal: contact@helponechildthrive.com

Normally, this is done for the child you are sponsoring, but if you can afford, offer this to a child without sponsor. Take the first step into seeing how HOCT is like and you will enjoy wonderful updates and a peace of mind like nothing else, because the amount of illnesses in Uganda is large… and you will be giving a child a way out of that danger.

Just Look at Her!

Shamula my doll ❤ if only you knew how far she’d come, I am so proud of her, and of her long-distance mother who puts so much soul in taking care of her! Thank you so much Nico!

Mutesi Shamula is a girl that has spina bifida and urinary incontinence. You can well imagine how her life was before she came to us. To this day the first photo of her still haunts me like a nightmare. But now she is clean, well-fed, not worrying about her bladder (Nico buys her Pampers) and, most of all, she attends school, and mind you, she is doing terrific!

So yes, when I see such results, such effort, I feel that any hardship can be overcome.

Acts of Kindness

Many beautiful things happened today – we are working very hard to catch up on the delivery of products – a matter which is not so easy to accomplish, mind you, as some of the products go bad and need to be replaced. Slowly-slowly the children gather after the holidays and they will pick their items with gratitude and love.

The little girl hiding behind the letter is cracking me up 🤣 Beatrice and Simon have fed so many children without sponsor and she is one of the fortunate ones to have a batch of food. She is very happy, she has never received anything.

Emulutu (in orange shirt) is his normal self (I have known this boy since he was a peanut; one day, this boy will become at least a president!) and Mukose Rayan, who is struggling a little bit (he has severe disabilities) has also received his batch of food from his beloved long-distance mother, Romina.

A Good Day of My Life

We worked today (we had a lot of meat and it risked going bad) and we worked yesterday.

I do not feel like this is “work”. This is something we build in this wounded world, with love and understanding and effort, with joy, with sleepless nights and end-to-end weekends and no vacations and no free days.

And I do not mind. Look at this boy that no one wanted – forgotten by a previous person (surely life gets ahead of all of us sometimes) and whom I thought no one would ever want again, and there comes Claudia and wants him.

That’s a smile that cannot be staged – it comes from the depth of the soul. And even when they don’t smile, their little hands clutching at the carton of eggs or at the bag of maize, knowing they have food to eat for now – this is my best present, the most important thing that I accomplish each day, and for this very reason, I do not mind working each day of my life.

I received many beautiful messages today and I am grateful for all of them. I took some time for myself, spent the day with my Family, and painted a little mindless landscape with the colors from Nicoleta.

It has been a good day of my life.

Hard, Joyful Work

The days are simply running away from me and I can hardly write or do anything but organizing tables, payments, replying to messages and doing other administrative tasks. Hardly any sleep on this front, but I work together with my colleagues with all my love. We work with good energy and we hope that you can feel it.
